Create Traits and Trait Folders

Taxonomies in Audience Manager

A taxonomy is the collection of audience segments which you offer in the marketplace as Data Feeds. A taxonomy consists of categories, sub-categories, segment names and their descriptions. Also, the most important field is the segment ID/Key-Value for each segment.

When a taxonomy is uploaded in Audience Manager, it is represented as Traits and Trait folders as shown below:

  • Audience Segments = AAM Traits
  • Segment Categories = AAM Trait Folders

How to create traits and trait folders in Audience Manager

There are three ways to create traits and trait folders in Audience Manager:

  1. Using the Audience Manager UI (user interface)
  2. Using the Audience Manager REST API
  3. Using Bulk Audience Management tool (aka BAAAM tool)

Using the Audience Manager UI

Using the Audience Manager REST API

If you have a lot of Traits to create, doing so in the UI can be tedious. You can use the AAM REST API to automate the process.

See AAM - Creating Onboarded Traits with API

You'll need to make a request to the MCPI email channel to get your API Client ID and Secret. The username and password will be the same as your login credentials for Audience Manager.

Using the Bulk Management tool

To make it convenient to upload traits and trait hierarchy in bulk, we have a tool called the Bulk Management tool.  This tool allows you to create, update, and delete traits and trait folders using MS Excel spreadsheets. Please refer the following link to learn more:
